Bonita Lujane Nalewak

Bonita “Bonnie” Nalewak passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in the peace of her home, surrounded by her family, and holding the hand of the love of her life, John Glass. 

Bonnie’s greatest joy was her 13 grandchildren, Jarek, Kohen, Brooklyn, Devon, Isabella, Gia, Emma, Giancarlo, Bristol, Joey, Angie, Mia and Sofia, and she was their biggest fan. Her proudest accomplishment was the happiness and success of her children Jeremy and wife MaryEllen, Jennifer, Jonathan and wife Cayt, Jaron and his wife Morgan, and Jason. Bonnie also cherished her many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, Chad Glass, Nikki Jackson, Kari Glass, Rich Baxter, and Stephanie Nalewak each of whom held a special place in her heart and in her family. Bonnie had the gift of making everyone feel like family, and her children’s friends became part of that family too, welcomed with open arms and loved as her own. 

Bonnie was born in Franklin County on December 30, 1949, daughter of the late Richard and Gladys Cramer, and sister of Gwenda Rotz, Stephen (Mary) Cramer, Beverly Conner, Richard Cramer, Denise (Robert) Brennan, and Valerie Singley. She graduated from Chambersburg Area Senior High School. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sheila Freeman; and her brothers-in-law, David Rotz and Douglas Conner. 

Bonnie lived and worked, raised her children, and watched her grandchildren grow in Chambersburg. Everyone who met Bonnie started as a stranger but left as a friend. Hat’s Heroes was never just a business. It was her life’s calling, her second family, and an expression of all that she was. She refused to raise her prices, and preparing food was an act of love and payment a mere afterthought.

Bonnie not only fed her customers, but also supported countless sports teams and student-athletes throughout the Chambersburg area by preparing and packing their away-game meals. She provided fundraising opportunities for numerous Franklin County youth organizations and was always willing to give back to the community she loved. Chambersburg Area athletics held a special place in her heart, and she viewed it as an honor and her gift to support its athletes, families, and the community that meant so much to her.

On September 11, 2026, Bonnie stood under the Friday night lights with her hands on her heart and tears in her eyes as the Chambersburg football team, students, cheerleaders, and all in attendance at the home game gave her a standing ovation, a final curtain call to the life of a legend, Grandma Bonnie.

A private service for family will be held. All who knew and loved Bonnie are invited to celebrate her life on October 9, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46, 755 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg. Her family, friends, neighbors, and customers were the music of her life. Bonnie loved karaoke, so please come ready to sing one for her.
