Charles M. Rice

Charles M. “Charlie” “Bub” Rice, 88, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born May 16, 1937, in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Rice.

Charlie was a graduate of the Chambersburg High School. He then went on to train as a barber. He started his over 50-year-long career as a barber in the Chambersburg area when he was sixteen.

He loved hunting, fishing, and golfing; spending time at Raystown Lake with his family; and watching Penn State football, the GRIT, and Great Outdoors channels. Charlie also had a passion for reading.

He is survived by eight loving children: Rusty Fetterhoff (Diana) of Keystone Heights FL, Dusty Fetterhoff of Orrtanna, PA, Brian Fetterhoff (Angela “Till”) of Scotland, PA, Carol Hoffman of Chambersburg, PA, Charles Hoffman (Amelia) of Milton, PA, Margaretta Miller of Chambersburg, PA, Lisa Orne (Thomas) of Chambersburg, PA, and Sharon “Petie” Hoffman (Rhonda Boteler) of Fayetteville, PA; 24 cherished grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and four siblings. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Edith Rice, and a sister.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in his name to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Charles and Edith (Sam) Rice on July 20, 2025, at the VFW Chambersburg, 747 S. 4th Street at 1:00pm.
