In Loving Memory of George Jeffrey Garvin 1/16/1936 - 12/30/2025
For 63 years, Jeff was married to the love of his life, Wilma Garvin. Their enduring marriage served as the foundation of a large, devoted family. He was a steadfast provider who worked hard to ensure those he loved were always cared for.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Wilma; his four wonderful children, Darren "Duke" Garvin (Deborah), Tracey Thomson (Eric) Kelly Hammond (Gene), Sierra Garvin (Kenny); five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Stephen Gray, and sister Stephanie Wilhelm (Fred).
He was preceded in death by his father, George K. Garvin; his mother, Ruth M. Gray; his step-father, Donald Gray; and his sister, Patricia Wright. We can only imagine the glorious reunion as he walked through Heaven's gates!
He is leaving behind a legacy of laughter, song, and a spirit that never met a stranger.
A man who lived his life in a state of joy, he was known for his quick wit and his ability to brighten any room. Whether he was delivering a perfectly timed joke or breaking into an impromptu, made-up song, he believed that life was meant to be enjoyed. If you had the pleasure of meeting him, chances are he left a lasting impression on you.
In his early years, he worked in the trucking industry, navigating the world of freight with the same work ethic he carried throughout his life. A man of many talents, he held the distinction of being one of the first licensed auctioneers in the state of Pennsylvania and known as "The Yodeling Dutchman" —a role that perfectly suited his booming personality and gift for gab. He enjoyed singing and was a member of 2 gospel singing groups, Canaan Land and Sunrise Singers.
For 35 years, he was a staple of the community as a vendor at Jim’s Farmers Market. He truly loved the "art of the deal" and the people he met along the way. He lived by the practical philosophy, "You price it to sell it, or you price it to keep it," and he took great joy in the belief that "one man’s junk was another man’s treasure." To him, the merchandise was just a reason to strike up a conversation and make a new friend.
Beyond his professional life, he was a devoted father and a steadfast provider for his family. He worked hard to ensure those he loved were cared for, teaching them through example how to find happiness in the simple things.
While we mourn the deep loss of his presence, we find profound peace in our faith. We take comfort in the promise that this is not a final goodbye, but a temporary parting, and that we will see him again in Heaven!
