Gerald R. Short

Gerald R. Short, 77, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Wednesday, July 22 2026 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born June 10, 1949 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Bruce and Ruth (Reichard) Short.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Laurie (O’Neil) Short.

Gerald is also survived by one daughter, Jennifer Wenger (Chris) Orrstown; two sisters, Marcia Short and Sandy Pushman; a very special niece Amy Short; and many more nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Gerald is preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Short, and Ronald Short; and a favorite cousin, Glenn Stoops.

He was raised at Scotland School for Veterans children, where he felt like everyone was family . He returned many times to see the sports activities.

When he graduated, he went into the Army serving four years and then getting an Honorable discharge in 1974. Gerald then went on to work as a cable technician which at that time was Warner Cable and is now Comcast. He worked for 42 years until retiring.

Gerald loved watching sports. His favorite teams were, Philadelphia Eagles and the Phillies, also basketball. He enjoyed playing Bingo, the casino slots and loved spending time with his daughter and wife. Telling them dad jokes, reminiscing about the old days, and oldies music. His wife and daughter will miss him dearly.

A private Celebration of Life will be held for the family at a later date.
