Gregory W. Hefner, 78, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at his residence. Born August 27, 1947 in Washington DC, he was the son of the late Howard and Iva (Showers) Hefner.
When Greg was four, the family moved to Kensington, MD where Greg attended Pleasant View Elementary School, Newport Junior High School (where he was voted the Mashed Potato King), and Einstein Senior High School (where he was voted Best Dressed), graduating in 1965.
In 1966 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving 4 years. Upon his honorable discharge as an E5 in 1970, he attended Montgomery Junior College before settling on a career in the construction industry. Greg worked for the Minkoff Company in the DC area doing fire restoration work, and then for various other companies before starting his own home improvement company with a partner, Orest Steciak, in Columbia, MD. The Steciak-Hefner Home Improvement Company served Howard County, MD for 25 years and earned a reputation from the ‘woman of the house’ as the “neatest” contractors in town! In 1992.
Greg and family moved to Shippensburg, PA and finally to Chambersburg, PA, and Greg went to work for the Roadway Trucking Company in Carlisle, PA, retiring as a dock worker in 2006. After his retirement , Greg was employed by Giant Food on Norland Avenue Chambersburg, up to the time of his death, where he could be found in the bread aisle managing the Giant brands.
Greg is survived by his son, Casey Hefner; three grandsons, Ty, Carter, and Clayton Hefner. He is also survived by his sister, Patrice Carlson; his niece, Chris Carlson, and former wife, Brenda Bloomquist.
A memorial service will be held on SATURDAY, JANUARY 31, AT 11:00 AM at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 2695 Luther Avenue, Chambersburg, PA, where Greg was a member. Pastor Christopher Frye will officiate. Interment of ashes in the St. Luke columbarium will follow the service..
