Jayne H. Laman, 78, of Chambersburg, passed away Monday, January 5, 2026 at the Mercy House in Chambersburg. Born February 20, 1947 in Eldorado, AR she was the daughter of the late Dempsey and Gertrude (McKnight) Norris.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Harry Laman; daughter, Kimberly Newcomer (Tyler); son, Michael Akers (Krista); two stepchildren, Buffie Freeman and Jason Laman (Ashley); four grandsons, Wyatt Freeman, Kaden Nicarry, Caleb Newcomer, and Ben Akers; and three granddaughters, Whitney Freeman, Gemma Laman, and Ivy Laman.
Jayne’s life was defined by love, faith, and appreciation for life’s simple joys. She cherished spending time with her family, whether sitting and visiting at home or going out for breakfast to enjoy her favorite meal of eggs over medium, crisp bacon, and white toast. These moments of connection meant the world to her and are deeply treasured by those who loved her.
In her high school years, Jayne was actively involved in both basketball and band, reflecting her energy, teamwork, and love for music. Music remained an important part of her life, and she later taught herself to play the organ-a testament to her dedication, patience, and lifelong love of learning.
Jayne’s faith was central to who she was in life. A devoted Southern Baptist, she loved the Lord deeply and lived her faith through kindness, compassion, and quiet service to others. Her generous heart extended to animals as well; she truly could not say no to any of them, always offering care and affection whenever it was needed.
Jayne found joy and peace in traveling, especially trips to the beach, vacations, and other small getaways that allowed her to relax and enjoy the beauty around her. At home, she loved gardening and tending to her flowers, finding comfort and happiness in watching things grow.
She also had a sweet tooth and enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, including her favorite McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish. These small favorites brought her joy and are fondly remembered by her family.
Above all, Jayne loved her family deeply and unconditionally. Her warmth, faith, gentle spirit, and loving presence will be remembered always and cherished by all who were blessed to know her.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Mercy House in dedication to Jayne Laman.
