Jeanette Grace Garner

March 7, 1944 — February 5, 2026

Chambersburg

Jeanette Grace Garner, 81, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, after a brief illness, on February 5, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.

Born on March 7, 1944, in Fannettsburg, Pennsylvania, Jeanette was the daughter of the late Woodrow W. Wood and Erma V. (Stake) Wood, and was one of nine children. From an early age, she learned the value of service to her Lord through family and community. As early as eight years old, Jeanette accompanied her mother in her ’46 Ford Coupe in work outings to stack wood and shine silver, while Erma made errand runs for local Path Valley friends and family.

Family was central to Jeanette’s devotion and care. A faithful sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was always found serving joyfully, often with little regard to her own needs. When Jeanette was in the 6th grade, doctors discovered a thirteen-pound tumor in her mother Erma, then pregnant with her last child, Robert. Erma, with Jeanette still in high school, died in September of 1961 after six months of hospitalization. Jeanette then became a beloved “second mother” to her siblings, when some were placed in local homes for children, as Jeannete advocated successfully in court for their return home.

Following her graduation from Fannett-Metal High School in 1962, she served as professional seamstress at Stanley Company in Chambersburg for several decades. She then devoted two more decades to the service of those with disabilities, aiding her daughter Deana Shaeffer in the founding of Full Circle Residence, now operating in Chambersburg.

Jeanette is survived by her siblings—Mildred, Maggie, Frank, George, and Harry—her children—James (wife Vilmara), Cheryl, Jeffrey (wife Lianne), and Deana (husband Mark)—her grandchildren—Henry, Jouseline, Derrick, Darlene, Patrick, David, Hannah, Sierra, Elijah, Eryn, Crissy, and Amanda—and her great-grandchildren—Justyce, Alexa, Electra, Sophia, Zoe, Leo, Cameron, Everly, Raegan, Chelsea, Liam, Jamey, Wyatt, Thomas, Ellie, Addie, and Henry.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Robert, James, and Pat, along with nephew Robert.

At Jeanette’s request, services were private and at home, officiated by her son, Pastor Jeffrey Garner, also Superintendent of Providence Christian Academy, a school dear to Jeanette’s heart, dedicated to educating some of the area’s most vulnerable children.

Jeanette will be remembered for her contagious laugh, her love for gardening, her dedication to cooking, and her heart that never wavered in its devotion to those she loved. She now awaits the final resurrection and enjoys the company of those who see Jesus face-to-face.

“Her children rise up and call her blessed” (Proverbs 31:28a).
