Joan Peters

Joan M. Peters, born Tuesday, March 10, 1936, as Joan M. Crist, daughter of the late Martin J. Crist, Sr. and Marie G. (Heron) Crist, passed from this life Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 12:26 AM on the company of all her children and the wonderful nursing staff of the CCU department at the Chambersburg Hospital.

She attended Corpus Christi Catholic School and then went on to graduate from the Chambersburg Area Senior High School with the Calss of 1954. In her adult life she was active in various organizations, activities and choirs associated with Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She was a long time and active member of the Columbian Ladies, a auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus.

Joan is survived by six children, Charles E. Peters and wife Darlene, Cheryl A. Ervin, Joseph E. Peters, Jr. and wife Pamela, Dianna L. Peters, Douglas A. Peters and wife Gail, and Anthony J. Peters and wife Laura; a brother, Thomas Crist; sisters, Margaret Lotz and Patricia Varner; as well as a huge extended family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Charles E Shuman (1955), her second husband, Joseph E. Peters, Sr. (1985); two sons, David A. Peters (1961) and Nicholas A. Peters (2011); three great-grandsons, Tyler J. Ervin, Tyler A. Peters, and Blaine Zimmerman; two sisters, Barbara Crist and Mary Truman; and four brothers, Martin Crist, Jr., Richard Crist, James Crist and Bernard Crist.

A memorial mass will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 4, 2022 in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Fr. Matthew Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the new church narthex. Arrangements are by SimpleChoice Cremation Services, Inc. Chambersburg.
