Judith A. Thompson

Judith A Thompson, 84, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Sunday, June 7, 2026, in her home with her family. Judy was born on November 16, 1941, in Washington, DC to Herbert and Esther Dixon.

 She grew up with three sisters and a brother in Silver Spring, MD and attended Towson University for Elementary Education. After college, Judy married the boy next door; John Thompson, and moved to Annapolis, MD to raise two daughters, Susan and Julie.

 Judy loved spending time with her girls and she enjoyed gardening, bowling, sailing, and sewing. She was an accomplished seamstress, helping many people with her talents. She taught Sunday School, introduced many girls to nature as a Girl Scout leader and volunteered at the school.

 Judy retired with her husband to the Northern Neck where they enjoyed living and sailing on the Chesapeake Bay for 30 years. Judy loved cooking and playing cards while hosting her children, grandchildren and siblings. Sewing for her grandkids meant they always had new warm flannel pajamas to wear. She was involved in the community, volunteering with adult literacy, the HOA and sewing for others.

 Judy and her husband moved to Chambersburg in 2020 and enjoyed being close to family. She was welcomed by neighbors and friends at FUMC. She was adored by her husband and her daughters. Her grandchildren helped with her care daily as her health declined.

 She leaves behind a legacy of helping others, accepting others as they were and not sweating the small stuff. She made her family laugh with oft-repeated quotes including, “Might as well, can’t dance and it’s too wet to plow.” Jimmy Buffett was her daily vibe.

 She is survived by her daughter, Julie, her son-in-law Chad, sisters Ellen Dixon and Mary Scheele, brother Leighton Dixon and grandchildren Zachary and Brittany Fremen, Ethan, Ben and Cora Patterson, and beloved nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Hisler, her grandson Jake Hisler, her husband, John, and her sister, Eva Brown.
