Merle (Smith) Simonds Allen

Merle (Smith) Simonds / Allen, 74 of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania passed away on Friday, March 27th, 2026 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland. Born on May 17th, 1951 in Baltimore, Maryland she was the daughter of the late Merle Smith (101st Airborne Paratrooper “Screaming Eagles” who fought in the Battle of the Bulge, WW2) and Alpharetta (Connelly) Smith.

She is survived by her son William “Billy” Simonds and her daughter-in-law Jacey Simonds of Germantown, Maryland; her two grandchildren, Aiden Simonds and Colin Simonds; and her sister, Alpharetta “Freda” (Smith) Hickman of Catonsville, Maryland.

In addition to her parents, Merle was preceded in death by two brothers, John “Eddie” Smith and James “Jimmy” Smith.

Merle loved music, singing, dancing, art, and drawing, but most of all she cherished spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family.
