Ronald Boxler

February 18, 1950 — March 6, 2024

Ronald "Red" Eugene Boxler, 74, of Fayetteville, PA, peacefully passed away at home after a short illness on March 6, 2024. Born February 18, 1950, in Mineral Point, PA, he was the son of the late John Henry Boxler and Elizabeth Mary (Young). After graduating from Conemaugh Valley Area High School with the class of 1968, Ron served honorably in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1973. Early in his career, he worked in the railroad industry as a switchman and brakeman in both Pennsylvania and Nevada. He retired from United Rentals as a Shop Foreman in 2016.

Ron enjoyed camping in the local area and across the country with his partner and wife of 50 years, Janet. He was proud to have visited many states and 27 National Parks. When he wasn’t on adventures throughout the country, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycles & electric bike. He was a caring friend and neighbor, often helping those around him by loaning his tools and offering guidance on how to maintain cars and homes.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 siblings, Ran Young, John Jr., Helen Sell, Robert Sr., Barbara, S. Dwayne, Betty Loncala, Harry, C. Jean, and Donald.

He is survived by his wife Janet (Grunza), his daughter Gail (Reeves) and husband Otto Hutchins, granddaughter Laura and fiance Mallory Meadows, grandson Mikhail and wife Sam (Potter), great-grandson Zachariah, grandson Andrew, granddaughter Abigail, grandson Samuel; daughter Jennifer Shifler and partner Steven Smith, granddaughter Lily, granddaughter Rose, grandson Isaiah; son Scott and wife Kirsten (Alwerdt), and granddaughter Pierogi (dog).

Ron’s celebration of life will be held on April 20, 2024 at 3:30pm at the Burt J Asper American Legion Post 46, 755 Philadelphia Ave, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Arrangements are entrusted to SimpleChoice Cremations Services, Inc. of Chambersburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Franklin County Veteran Affairs Outreach Fund.
